Meet some of our brothers
Riely O’Sullivan - President
A little over three years ago, I found a place that took me from being good to being great. I found a home in Beta Theta Pi. I came to Beta in search of friendship but found so much more. The fraternity experience has instilled within me leadership and what it means to live a life of principle as a man who embodies mutual assistance and unsullied friendship.
Membership in Beta Theta Pi is a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded people, creating a network of support and culture aimed towards the pursuit of our individual aspirations and potential. I came to Beta as a small-town kid in awe of the university experience ... but also afraid. If there was a path, I certainly had no idea where it was. Fortunately, Beta Theta Pi gave me my path and allowed me to fully harness the university experience.
As the sports fraternity, we take pride in our intramural dominance. We offer an extensive plethora of sports opportunities for anyone looking to involve themselves. To this day, we hold the most wins of the intramural sports trophy. Every year our brothers take part in a charity hockey game known as Drop the Puck, with all profits going towards the Canadian Mental Health Association. Over the past three years, Drop the Puck has raised over $150,000 for charity. Beta has also provided opportunities to travel abroad where members will gather with representatives from 150 Beta chapters across North America and aim to refine their leadership skills.
Most importantly, Beta Theta Pi isn’t just a reflection of the university experience, it is the university experience and a multi-faceted organization filled with young men who embody our motto, “Making good men better.”
Kavin Bhatia - vice president
Kavin is a 3rd year Psychology student from New Delhi, India. He came to UBC at 18 years of age and found his home away from home at Beta Theta Pi. He has grown up surrounded by a culture of competition and positive masculinity, and felt that the fraternity embodied those principles. Kavin is a keen soccer player and has been playing since he was 10. He is also a provincial level debater and has won numerous competitions for his state back home. He graduated high school with an A+ average and aims to set a precedent of accountability and high standards within the chapter. Kavin currently serves as the First Vice President of Beta Theta Pi and aspires to be President one day. His previous roles include the Social Chairman and Public Relations Chair. He lives his life embodying the values set forth by the fraternity and aims to earn his badge every single day.
